At the edge of the Texas swamps lies the Starlight Hotel, a dilapidated wreck run by the psychotic and sexually frustrated Judd. Not many guests check in here anymore. And those who have the misfortune to do so run a high risk of ending up under Judd's scythe and being fed to his large-mouthed friend – an enormous crocodile that lives behind the hotel… EATEN ALIVE was Tobe Hooper's first film after The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and caused similar moral panic in Sweden. During police raids on video stores, rental copies were confiscated and destroyed. Kim Henkel, who also wrote The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, drew inspiration for the film from the case of bar owner Joe Ball, who fed his alligators live cats, dogs – and women! The cast features cult names such as Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Marilyn Burns (the lead in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), Carolyn Jones (Morticia in the original TV series The Addams Family), and Mel Ferrer, who according to Scream Magazine, is subjected to "one of the most prolonged and spectacular death scenes in film history."
