The news is out that the Detroit Youth Choir has been booked to perform at one of the most prestigious venues in the world, Carnegie Hall! But not every member of the choir will be hopping on the bus to New York City. A hand-selected choir, composed of just fifty kids, will be chosen after a special round of auditions. Everyone, from Limelight to Primetime, has the opportunity to show what they’re made of. But this is no ordinary DYC gig. Performing alongside collegiate choirs from around the country, the DYC will have to sing classical music, a big departure from the familiar pop, R&B, and gospel mashups. Mr. White throws a curveball at the Carnegie hopefuls: they have to learn how to sight read. If they want to get to Carnegie Hall, they’re going to have to practice, practice, practice.
