The mountain setting of Baguio gives a foreboding feeling of desolation and isolation among the shadows of pine trees where spinsters and broken-hearted sisters Lilia (Gloria Diaz) and Trining (Hilda Koronel) adopt and raise Joven (Jericho Rosales), Ito (Diether Ocampo), and Pilar (Claudine Barretto). The children grow up as siblings but Joven and Pilar find themselves irresistibly falling for each other. The announcement of their decision to marry is received with scorn and skepticism but Lilia later gives her blessings to the resentment of Ito who has been keeping his feelings for Pilar a secret. As Ito's indignation morphs into spite, he and the couple find themselves in a furtive and lethal cat-and-mouse game right under the noses of their unsuspecting guardians, leaving its participants wondering who is the assailant, who is the victim, and who must bid farewell.
