A flamboyant stranger, Carlos Murrieta, arrives at the tavern with a penchant for starting trouble. After belittling Sergeant Garcia and cracking his whip dangerously close to Diego's ear, he turns his attentions toward the new teenage tavern waitress, Maria. Despite Rudolfo, Maria's admirer, the dashing Argentino roughly kisses her. Rudolfo immediately challenges the stranger to a duel despite his lack of ability with a sword. After Diego unsuccessfully tries to teach Rudolfo to fence, he dons the mask and cape in an attempt to save the young man's life.
